What you need to know:
The British Gold Refinery is a relatively new player on the market. Created as part of TGS Pawnbrokers, it is a division of Weston Knightly Ltd.
Criteria:
The British Gold Refinery criteria for selling gold requires that you only use their service for your own personal use. You must be the owner of any and all items you wish to sell, or you must have full legal authority to carry out any transaction on behalf of the true legal owner of the item(s) or goods concerned. They reserve the right, but shall not be obliged, to ask for documented proof of ownership of any item(s) or goods, or for proof of your authority to transact with any such item(s) or goods.
Customer Service and Problems:
We have tested the level of customer service and found that the gold calculator tool on the The British Gold Refinery website Gold Calculator is misleading customers as to the price they will actually receive (read their customer feedback). The British Gold Refinery have however stated that the Gold Calculator is intended as a 'guide only' and any prices it displays does 'not' constitute a binding offer from them.
Overall:
The British Gold Refinery is a new player in this market but in a short time they've generated a few horror stories about their gold calculator misleading customers to send their gold in and then offering a fraction of what was indicated. Customers have also reported serious difficulties in getting their gold back and having to pay additional charges for valuing the gold items before their gold is returned. The British Gold Refinery are not a recommended gold buyer.
